If You Give A Dog A Donut

if you give a dog a donutIf You Give A Dog A Donut is one of my favorite books that I enjoy reading to my children on the weekends when I pick up fresh donuts from the bakery. It is an ideal book for ages preschool up to 3rd Grade. This book continues with the “If you give….” tradition and will have your children engaged and giggling as you read the story.

If You Give A Dog A Donut begins with a dog eating a donut and each page leads to another event which all leads back to the dog wanting a donut at the end of the book. I love Laura Numeroff’s books because a child can learn so much from listening to this book. This book teaches “what goes together” (e.g. a ball and a bat), various actions, sequencing, expanding vocabulary, adjectives and much more. This book brings a child’s imagination to life and the sky is the limit.

Carryover Activity: Make up your own, “If You Give A Dog A Donut” book. Allow your child to expand on their imagination and create their own story. Try to bring the story back to the beginning like Laura does in this story.
