Chocolate Shoes with Licorice Laces

chocolate shoes ocverIs your child a chocolate lover? How would your child like to wear chocolate shoes to school?  Chocolate Shoes with Licorice Laces is an engaging, humorous story about a boy whose Mom sends him to school in shoes made of chocolate. What would your child do if you sent them to school in shoes made of chocolate? I know my kids would eat these shoes right up.

This is a great book to read aloud during mealtime because the pictures are engaging and the story is funny and easy to follow. A perfect book to read during mealtime or better yet, dessert! Children also love books that make you imagine the unexpected. I never thought about wearing chocolate shoes until I read this book! The book takes the reader through different scenarios, a shirt as birthday cake and his sister shoes made of ice cream cones. Towards the end of the story, his shoes feel sort of tight. What would make them less tight? Maybe take a little bite……

When reading this book, ask your child questions such as “What would you do if your shoes were made of chocolate?”, “How would your tummy feel if you ate all of that chocolate?”, etc. Use print referencing strategies when reading the book by pointing to the title and author’s name. Have your child recognize some sight words within the story and point out words such as “yum” that your child can read to help participate. The book also includes a delicious recipe of creating chocolate shoe cookies of your own!
