Changing Gears

changin gearsI was originally contacted by author, Nancy Sathre-Vogel a couple of months ago regarding her book that she recently got published.  Changing Gears sounded interesting so she sent me a copy. When I began reading the book, I was fascinated from the very beginning. Changing Gears: A Family Odyssey to the End of the World is about a family that takes a biking adventure from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina. Nancy and her husband, John had a life long dream to go on a bicycle adventure with their twin 10 year boys. The family took off approximately three years for this adventure. The book takes the reader through all of the events that occurred on this long and awe inspiring adventure, including the hardships, the accomplishments and the amazing sense of triumph at the end. After I read the book, part of me highly respected and admired Nancy for taking their children on such an amazing adventure and fulfilling their dream together. The other part of me felt mixed about her children missing three years of attending standard school and having to deal other miscellaneous  issues along their adventure. Overall, I feel as parents we make the best decisions for us and our children. What is best for one family may not be the best for another family. Nancy discusses these struggles throughout the book and how she deals with these issues. Have you ever had a dream you wanted to fulfill? Read this book, its interesting, engaging and definitely makes you think outside the box!
